Friend of the Fat Kid – 101 lbs gone!

I’ve never profiled anyone on my blog before.  I have in the past made mention of the feats of others but no interviews or profiles.  I’m not sure what compelled me to ask this individual if I could feature her on my blog, actually I do know:

I met Lisa on the 3 Fat Chick IP Forum when I re-committed to IP after having my daughter Charlie.  Lisa immediately struck me as special; she has an enthusiasm that you can’t help but get caught up in and she is so encouraging to everyone she meets on the boards.  She always has a kind word to say to anyone who needs it and has dedicated herself to the Ideal Protein diet with a vengance.  I am proud to tell you that as of today, Lisa has lost over 100 lbs in 29 short weeks and I am so happy for her.  That is why I’m compelled to profile this wonderful woman on my blog!

Hey Lisa, tell my readers a little bit about yourself: I am 45, divorced single mom of 2 boys 20 and 23. I work full time as a Grounds Transportation Manager for 4 coach buses and the drivers. I am an easy going, laid back person w

ho enjoys life to the fullest.

What made you start your weight loss journey? In March 2011 I was told I would have to have a hip replacement if I didn’t lose weight. I have no more cartlidge in my lower back nor in my right hip and could barely walk.

Why did you chose IP? My mom worked with a lady whom had loss a large amount of weight in a little time and questioned her. Once my mom told me about the plan, I did research and it looked like something I could follow. The rest is history.

What do you think has made you successful this time vs other tries? I think the reason I had success this time is because I was in the right mind set. I have always been a big girl and I was had accepted that I would be big for the rest of my life. When I was told about the hip replacement it scared me because it only last for 10 years then I would have to get another one and I didn’t want that to happen. My whole life it has been taking care of everyone else by myself. My kids always came first, I always put myself last. I am now living for me and taking care of myself. No one will take care of me, I have to do it for myself and I will! My mom has been my biggest supporter along with my brother. They both did the program and loss 50lbs each. I would of did it without them but to have them in the journey with me is amazing.

Ideal Protein is a very strict black and white per say diet, if you follow the program it works. I like the idea that it is so cut and dry where you don’t have to measure or count anything. It doesn’t give you any options to heat while measuring your foods because everything is already done for you. Its simple and easy.

You’ve lost 100 lbs – how does that feel? it feels amazing. I never saw myself as big as I was. My motto in life was take me as I am or not at all I really don’t care. I was happy but now I am much more happier than before. I still have 40lbs before I get to my first goal of 250lbs, once I get there I will see how much further I want to go down. I am thinking I will go to 200-220lbs but we will see.

What can you do now that you couldn’t before? I can walk without limping!! For the last 2 years when I would walk it would hurt my hip and now it doesn’t so that is super exciting. The more weight I lose the more walking I am doing. I used to hate going shopping, now I love it. I can actually find clothes in a regular store, still in the plus sizes but at least I can find some now. Before I had to only order my clothes, which most looked like grandam clothes. Look out world I am in fashion now!

What is the best and worst thing about losing weight? I don’t think I have any worse things about losing the weight except I don’t have clothes that fit anymore. So that is a good thing because I have to get a whole new wardrobe. The best thing is seeing the faces of the people who didn’t know I was losing weight and see me. Their expressions are priceless, their mouths always drop. The thing is I am not done yet, everyone says I look great. I feel fantastic that is for sure.

What do you think you’ve learned along the way? I have learned what do eat and what not to eat and to watch the carbs. I have a whole new look at food than I did before. I now know that you have to eat to lose weight and not starve yourself. I would go all day without eating, I wouldn’t make the time because I thought I was going to lose weight by doing so. Boy was I wrong. I know eat 3 meals a day and a snack and have dropped 100lbs 73.5 inches in 28 weeks. I enjoy eating my 3 meals and snack, I will continue eating that and keep my weight off. I am a new person now, have an out look on life I didn’t have before. A new person and almost a new year so its time for a new life in this new body!

If you could share one piece of advice with everyone what would it be? Stay focused and don’t let anything get in the way of your goal. If you are determined everything is possible. You are the only one who can change and if you put your mind in it, the journey will be easy and you will be successful.

If you’re having a bad day, what makes you stay on track? What makes me stay on track is I want to get to my goal. Everything will taste the same once I get to my goal so there are no temptations for me right not. I think someone could put a huge chocolate cake in front of me and I wouldn’t even think about even having a lick. Don’t lose focus

Is there anything else you’d like my readers to know about you? It took me years to finally make the decision to lose weight and this is the best thing that has happened to me since I’ve had my boys who are now 20 and 23. Take the time to take care of yourself before its too late, I didn’t realize that until now. Good luck to everyone who chooses to do something about their weight. Its a long road but so rewarding in the end it all pays off. Ideal Protein has changed my way of thinking and my lifestyle.

A Fat Kid Recipe

This one isn’t actually my recipe – it’s the pudding cake recipe as adapted by Kathryn (thanks for this one!!) but I just had to share it with everyone because it’s great!

Savory Waffle Sandwich Bread

A phase I compliant recipe.

Ingredients:

1 Vanilla IP Packet

1/4 cup of egg whites

2 oz of water

Pinch of baking powder

Pinch of sea salt

Directions:

-add in your favorite spices ie: garlic powder, parsley, pepper, etc. Spices and herbs will tone down the sweetness of your vanilla pudding. You can also add a half oz of shredded parmesan cheese to your batter if you want a treat.

-combine spices and put into a heated waffle iron sprayed with non-stick spray for approx 4 minutes (or until done depending on your iron).

-remove and stuff with your favorite sandwich veggies and some WF mayo or dressing. An oz or two of chicken from your dinner protein will compliment your sandwich nicely!

**Apparently you can use the soups to make the savory waffles…I will be trying out the tomato soup today and report back!

I love cookies like a fat kid loves cake

What?? A fat kid that likes cookies, now there’s a surprise, but seriously I loves me some cookies.

Ideal Protein recently came out with a new restricted snack – the chocolate chip cookie, and I have to say that since I found out about it I have been looking forward to trying it out.  So the moment you’ve all been waiting for <insert drumroll here>
The Fat Kid reviews the Chocolate Chip Cookie!

This cookie is on the cakey side and is fairly dense and super sweet but definitely passable for a diet cookie, I think the chocolate chips are even real!  I must warn you though this comes in at a whopping 23g of carbs (19g net carbs) and 5g of fat.  Some days 23g of carbs is all I have for the entire day.  I’m not sure I’d want to have this more than once or twice a week just based on the carb count but if it were on taste I’d definitely eat it more than that.

This fat kid gives the new cookies a thumbs up.
I’m looking forward to trying the vanilla drink mix and the mashed potatoes :)  And don’t you worry, I’ll review the heck out of those too.

You know you’re fat kid fat when…

You know you’ve gotten too fat when you feel worse than when you were 9 mths pregnant.

I’m avoiding the scale but it’s hard, though at this point I’m not sure I want to know where I’m at. Don’t worry, my coach is going to know my stats all along, I’m just turning around and facing backward on the scale. I am still accountable to someone :)

In the next week or so I will be interviewing someone pretty spectacular. She has lost over 100 lbs on IP and she looks amazing. Please come back and check that out, she’s worth the read and her spirit and perseverance is what has motivated me to get back on track.

I also got my hands on the NEW IP Cookies!!  I will be eating one and reviewing the much anticipated treat, so keep an eye out for that as well.
